Class Action Lawsuits

In the 1970's the onslaught of Asbestos lawsuits began. The target of the class action lawsuits have been shipbuilders, manufacturers, mining companies and construction companies. Because many of these buildings/mines/ships still stand mesothelioma and of course mesothelioma class action lawsuits continue. Mesothelioma causes death so you would think that the reward should be substantial.

Finding a Great Lawyer for Your Case: The Best and the Worst Ways

The task of finding the best lawyer for your case can be very stressful and should be carefully dealt with. But, you need not worry. Here are a few tips and hints that will help you find a suitable attorney for your case in your own locality without wasting your precious time.

The Worst Ways of Finding a Lawyer:

Almost certainly, the worst way to select an attorney is to let your fingers do the walking through the Yellow Pages. The long, daunting, unending lists in the Yellow Pages make the task all the more difficult and nerve-racking. The ‘Big Ads’ are the most attractive ones among all, but it becomes frustrating to realize that they are also the ones that charge big bucks, way beyond our budgets. Then, does that mean that the little ads are less qualifying?

Well, this question is difficult to answer as there is just not enough information about the attorneys or the legal firms to help you decide if you should hire him or her. For instance, after short-listing a few solicitors to choose from based on their experience, credentials, quality of ads, or location, you would be left completely clueless about a number of other considerations, such as availability, convenience, and fees.

Another drawback of this method is that it is very time-consuming. Once you have checked full page listings and small listings and selected a few names, you would have to go to the courthouse in order to find out what proceedings they are involved in and on what days they are scheduled, and then waste your time sitting in as a spectator to observe them at work. You might also have to go to the Law Association to get a better understanding of the reputation and character of the few selected ones. Finally, you would also have to take out time to sit down with each one of your named lawyers and speak to them about your case.

The Best Ways of Finding a Lawyer:

Here are some of the best ways to select an attorney without having to spend a lot of time:

The most recommended way is to ask your friends and colleagues who either hired an attorney to deal with their case in the recent past or know some local lawyer personally. You can ask them questions, such as “Did they like their Attorney?”, “Was he/she helpful?”, “Was he/she available to them?”, “Was his/her fee reasonable?”, and “Did they like the outcome?” It is advisable not to ask your friends any personal questions regarding their case so that they can be open with you when discussing about their lawyer.

Another good way is to find a lawyer through the reference of any attorney you have known in the past. He/she can probably help you find the best one in a specific area of expertise, as suitable to your case.

Thirdly, you can also look for suitable attorneys through the State Bar, which provide licenses to legal practitioners. You can also go through their referral program where you would be put in touch with an attorney who has prior experience in dealing with cases similar to yours. A small fee might be charged for this service but it is truly worth it.

Last, but not the least, you can find lawyers through online referral services or “easy-to-locate” state-wise lawyer-listings.
